The Psychosocial Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Survivors in the United States: An Integrative Review
Adolescent and young adult cancer survivors (AYAs) are uniquely challenged with navigating health care systems during an important developmental phase of life. During the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, many people experienced social isolation, mental health symptoms, and schooling and employment changes, which may have affected vulnerable AYA cancer survivors. The purpose of this integrative review is to explore the psychosocial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on AYA cancer [...]

Objective: During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, non-essential health services were suspended in Belgium, and the public was ordered to socially isolate. Underdiagnosis of cancer during this period was reported worldwide. Certain risk factors for head and neck cancer (HNC) overlap with those for COVID-19 incidence and mortality, making underdiagnosis and subsequent stage shift of this potentially rapidly progressing cancer a major concern. We aimed to analyze incidence, [...]

The Burden of Lung Cancer in Women Compared With Men in the US
Jemal, Ahmedin ; Schafer, Elizabeth J. ; Sung, Hyuna ; Bandi, Priti ; Kratzer, Tyler ; Islami, Farhad ; Siegel, Rebecca L.
A previous study from the American Cancer Society reported higher lung cancer incidence in women than men younger than 50 years in the US, a reversal in the historically higher burden in men that was not fully explained by smoking differences. It is unknown, however, whether this pattern has changed in contemporary birth cohorts. Herein, we extended the previous analysis with an additional 5 years of data to monitor shifts in lung cancer incidence by age and sex.

Lessons and opportunities from improved understanding of global lung cancer histological subtypes
Cooper, Wendy A.
In a population-based study of variations in lung cancer incidence by histological subtype in 2020, Yanting Zhang and colleagues 1 have provided, for the first time to my knowledge, data on a global scale, highlighting substantial geographical and sex-based differences. Although there are over 30 different primary lung malignancies, the four most common are adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, large-cell carcinoma, and small-cell carcinoma, which account for most cases. 2 The different [...]

Are Cancer Biosimilars Similar and Significant Enough to Deserve More Attention?
Mao, Chen ; Li, Mengfeng
Cancer represents a major threat to public health and human lives. In recent years, anticancer biologics, such as immune checkpoint blockers and cancer driver molecule–targeting biologics, have been extensively used in the clinic to treat cancers. While they demonstrate efficacy for treating various types of cancers, the usually high cost of biologics too often imposes heavy financial burdens on individuals who need them and on tax-based health care compensation systems. Reduction of the cost [...]
