Although biliary-tract cancers are infrequent in European and North American health-care systems, they pose a substantial challenge worldwide. Few patients with biliary-tract cancers (cholangiocarcinomas, gallbladder cancer, and ampullary tumours) are diagnosed at an early enough stage to be amenable to curative resection, so identification of additional therapies for many patients presenting with unresectable or metastatic disease is urgently needed...
