Since February 21, 2020, when the first Italian patient was admitted to the hospital due to severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and found positive to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), this infection has spread through Italy, quickly becoming the largest COVID-19 outbreak outside Asia1. In March the 12th World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 pandemic, placing WHO European Region at the center of pandemic.
