Bisphosphonates were the first bone-targeted drugs proven to be effective in patients with bone metastases. With these agents, we learned that using a host-directed therapy was worthwhile for patients with bone metastases: they had fewer bone complications (reported as skeletal-related events) and less pain over the time.
